Warmest greetings to the organizers and participants of the 11th Parish Renewal Experience (PREX) National Convention.
I would like to applaud the timely existence of the PREX Movement as it faithfully responds to the Church's vital call for social transformation. Indeed, this parish-based movement is another significant breakthrough of the church since it continues toestablish vibrant communities of Christ's disciples and more importantly turns isolated parish organizations into one big parish family. St. Paul reminds us, "Let all these things be done in a way that will build up the community (1 Cor. 14:26)." A renewed face of the parish, that is, the renewed community of families, if not crucially encouraged, is truly a necessity toward achieving just and free society.
The gruesome systems of violence, hatred, environment devastation, political fraud, and widespread graft and corruption have become chronic and almost incurable. How can we possibly overcome these powerful forces of wickedness? St. Paul in his letter to the Romans sternly encourages us, "Do not be mastered by evil, but master evil with good (Rom. 12:21)." The best way therefore to end this seemingly endless cycle of evil is one other than to build a culture of charity and goodness-where families form one big community of the Lord's disciples, constantly renewed by the Holy spirit.
It is my sincerest wish that you may be inspired by this momentous occasion. With God's grace, may you draw strength from each others' zeal to continue the mission of our Lord.
